We want to bring craft back into everyday life in the city, making it easy for people to create and learn new skills.
Two potters working in the arts began with a simple idea: can’t there be a social space where we create rather than consume?
Enter cræft.
Craft comes from the Old English word ‘cræft’, which originally referred to ‘power’, ‘physical strength’ or ‘might’. In other Germanic rooted languages, this remained the case. In England, ‘cræft’ and then ‘craft’ slowly evolved towards mental power and mastery over a material or physical skillset. This was used in trades and guilds, where craft knowledge was highly respected and handed down through generations.
At cræft we offer ‘table sessions’: you can book a table, choose from a menu of craft, and settle in for 2 hours. We also run a programme of specialised ticketed events, for learning to make a particular item, or participate in creative social events.
